Introduction

Organ Feast is a one month collaborative speculative design project completed in 2024. Through performance based ritual actions and experimental film, the work constructs a ceremonial framework centered on animal organs to examine the cultural logic embedded within dietary systems.

Grounded in speculative design methodology, the project draws from the traditional Chinese medicinal principle of “restoring shape with shape,” using ritualized bodily practice and visual narrative to reconsider how food carries meaning, hierarchy, and belief within cultural contexts.

Within industrialized food systems, animal bodies are fragmented into standardized commodities. Muscle tissue becomes a sanitized object of consumption, while organs are rejected for exposing the interiority of life.

Such distinctions are not purely nutritional or hygienic, but culturally constructed through symbolic logic. Dietary systems silently reinforce hierarchies between humans, animals, and nature.

Organ Feast asks: if edibility is culturally defined, how does form become a generator of meaning?

Action Structure

Participants enter the ceremonial space
Desire is declared through offering.
Blessed food is ritually consumed.

“The five organs are set to the five elements,
and their nourishment is as their nature. Food doth temper their essence and giveth life unto their spirit.”
The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon
